Nigerian Navy Arrests Two Stowaways in Lagos

On March 19, 2026, the Nigerian Navy apprehended two stowaways, Abdullahi Yakubu, aged 36, and Omoniyi Afotona, aged 25, who attempted to travel illegally to Europe aboard the MV Seaspan Lahore. The arrests took place during a routine security check near Lagos Fairway Buoy.

Commodore Adam Aliyu, who oversaw the operation, emphasized the risks associated with stowaway activities and urged parents and guardians to educate young people about the dangers of illegal migration. The suspects were handed over to the Lagos Port Marine Command in Apapa for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Stowaways are individuals who secretly board vessels to travel to foreign countries without authorization, which poses significant risks to their safety.
