Yobe State to Employ 1,485 Nursing Graduates Automatically

On Wednesday, the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Idi Bard Gubana, announced that 1,485 graduates from the Shehu Sule College of Nursing Science will receive automatic employment in the state health service, with the exception of 122 graduates awaiting final approval from Governor Mai Mala Buni. This announcement was made during a ceremony held at the college's conference hall.

Gubana highlighted the achievement as a significant step in addressing the state's healthcare challenges, particularly following a decade of security issues. He credited healthcare workers for their contributions and noted that the current administration has established 142 primary healthcare centers and upgraded 12 hospitals, employing 3,500 health workers.

Additionally, a biomedical research center has been established to tackle chronic kidney diseases. The college ranks third nationally with 100% accreditation, and the first set of 62 Higher National Diploma nursing students was inducted on April 4.

Provost Hajiya Hadiza Sabo confirmed that the employment policy is driven by the increasing number of applicants, which rose from 600 in 2019 to 3,000 for the 2025/2026 session.
