Yobe State Launches Vocational Training for 200 Almajirai

The Yobe State government, in collaboration with the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, has commenced a training program for 200 almajirai, as disclosed by Dr. Umar Abubakar, the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Arabic and Islamic Education Board (AISEB).

The official flag-off ceremony marked the beginning of a six-month program designed to equip participants with various vocational skills, including tailoring, shoemaking, carpentry, welding, solar installation, and tiling. Throughout the program, participants will reside within the polytechnic.

The initiative aims to tackle poverty and unemployment by empowering almajirai, who often memorize the Holy Qur'an but lack formal education and job opportunities. Upon completion of the training, participants will receive tools, start-up kits, and capital support to help them become self-reliant.

Dr. Abubakar emphasized Governor Mai Mala Buni's commitment to improving the welfare of almajirai, who are often classified as school children due to their lack of formal qualifications.

Dr. Ibrahim Bello Bashir, the rector of the Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, noted that the training aligns with national occupational standards equivalent to national diploma level.
