15 Dead, 17 Injured in Kwara Trailer Crash

A tragic accident occurred in Kwara, where a trailer carrying passengers crashed, leading to 15 confirmed deaths and 17 injuries. The incident took place at 2:32 AM near the Muslim cemetery in Oko Olowo, involving a Daf XF trailer with registration number GWL 274 XC, driven by Nasiru Muham.

Of the 48 male occupants, 15 were pronounced dead at the scene, while 17 others suffered injuries, including fractures and bruises. Sixteen occupants escaped unhurt.

Injured victims were evacuated to Arewa Medic Centre and Baki Hospital for treatment, and the bodies of the deceased were released to their families. Kabiru Babatund Kazeem, from the Kwara Sector Command of the FRSC, confirmed the incident on Monday and stated that preliminary findings attributed the crash to driver fatigue.

The FRSC, in collaboration with the Oko Olowo outpost, conducted rescue operations, with ongoing efforts to search for victims believed to be trapped beneath the trailer's load. The command has intensified public enlightenment campaigns to promote safer road usage.
