15 Parties Submit Candidates for Nigeria's 2027 Elections

Fifteen political parties in Nigeria successfully met the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline to conduct their presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. The deadline for parties to submit their candidates is January 16, 2027.

Major contenders include Bola Tinubu from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who seeks a second term, and Atiku Abubakar from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who has pledged to focus on economic revival and job creation. Other candidates include Peter Obi from the Labour Party, who promised to increase electricity generation and tackle corruption, and Chibuzo Okereke, also from the Labour Party.

Seyi Makinde emerged as the candidate for the People's Movement, while Omoyele Sowore represents the African Action Congress (AAC). The primaries concluded with various promises from candidates regarding economic development, security, and governance reforms.

The campaign season is expected to commence on August 19, 2026.
