INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the 2027 elections. The initial deadline was set to expire on Saturday, July 11, 2026, but has now been extended to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

This decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the chairman of the commission's voter education committee. The extension follows an appeal from the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which represents political parties that were unable to upload the names of their candidates within the stipulated timeframe.

INEC emphasized its commitment to ensuring an inclusive electoral process that operates within the provisions of the law and urged political parties to utilize this additional period to complete their candidate submissions before the new deadline.
