INEC Extends Candidate Submission Deadline for 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced an extension of the deadline for political parties to submit their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections. The new deadline is now set for midnight on July 14, 2026, extended from the previous date of July 11, 2026.

This decision was made after the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) appealed for additional time due to technical challenges faced by several political parties in uploading candidate details to the nomination portal. INEC's chairman, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, confirmed the extension in a statement, emphasizing the commission's commitment to ensuring compliance with the provisions of the electoral act and encouraging wider participation.

The extension allows parties an additional three days to complete the necessary uploads before the new deadline expires.
