Ondo Communities Protest Against Land Encroachment

On Friday, residents from 19 oil-producing communities in Ilaje Local Government Area, Ondo State, protested against alleged land encroachment by individuals from neighboring Delta State communities. The affected communities include Odun Ebiwon, Odun Makin, Ilu Titun, and several others.

Protesters called for intervention from the Ondo State Government to prevent the situation from escalating into an inter-state crisis. Community leader Mr.

Busayo Ebiniyi stated that the area is economically valuable due to its oil and mineral resources, which has led to increased pressure from Delta State residents. He emphasized the need for peace and urged the Ondo State Government to engage with Delta State authorities.

Another leader, Ebiwonjumi Olumide, asserted that the communities are part of Ugbo Kingdom and have historical claims to the land, rejecting any claims from Delta State. The protest aimed to maintain peace and assert their rights over the land.
