Ogun Residents Protest Against Land Grabbing Threat

On Monday, residents of Ikangba, Agoro, Imodi, Imosan, and surrounding communities in Ogun State protested against the activities of suspected land grabbers, warning that these actions could lead to a communal crisis if not addressed by the Federal and Ogun State governments. The protesters alleged that land grabbers, accompanied by security operatives, were using bulldozers to demolish structures and intimidate residents.

Comrade John Nicholas Eko, the Ogun State Coordinator of the Campaign for Workers and Democratic Rights, stated that over 500,000 people could be displaced if the situation continues. He urged President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun to intervene, emphasizing that the governor had previously stated that land grabbing would not be tolerated.

Professor Gafar Ayodeji, a community leader, noted that previous peaceful attempts to resolve the issue had failed, despite the existence of the Ogun State Anti-Land-Grabbing Law of 2016. The residents expressed their frustration over ongoing intimidation and destruction of property.
