Ogun Communities Protest Against Alleged Land Grabbing

On Friday, residents of Ogun communities protested against alleged land grabbing, carrying placards urging Governor Dapo Abiodun, President Bola Tinubu, the police, and the Department of State Services to protect their ancestral lands. The protesters accused land grabbers of using bulldozers to destroy buildings and farmlands, while intimidating residents who opposed their actions.

They refuted claims linking Oba Sikiru Okuribido, the Dagburewe of Idowa, to these activities, asserting he supported their resistance. Professor Ayodeji Gafar, speaking at a press briefing, condemned a recent publication that misrepresented Oba Okuribido's involvement, calling it "disgusting and unfair." The communities demanded transparency and an impartial investigation into land claims, asserting that alleged land grabbers were impostors.

They called on relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Police Force and the Ogun State Anti-Land Grabbing Task Force, to verify identities and claims. Despite previous interventions by Ogun State's Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, SAN, residents felt compelled to protest again due to ongoing threats.
