Truck-Gas Tanker Collision in Lagos Claims Two Lives

In Lagos, a tragic accident occurred around 2:36 AM when a 20-ton tipper truck collided with a stationary 30-ton gas tanker that had not fully pulled off the highway. The impact triggered a massive fire that rapidly spread, engulfing three warehouses and ten roadside shops, including a gym.

General Margaret Adesey from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the incident and noted that firefighters were able to contain the inferno, preventing it from reaching a nearby filling station that housed a fully loaded 33,000-liter premium motor spirit tanker, thereby averting a potential explosion. The driver of the tipper truck was burnt beyond recognition, while the gas tanker driver escaped unhurt.

Emergency services received a distress call and responded swiftly to the scene, where recovery efforts were ongoing.
