Nigeria Wins Two Bronze Medals at Commonwealth Games

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Tuesday, Team Nigeria added two bronze medals to its tally. Temitope Simbiat Adeshina claimed bronze in the women's high jump by clearing 1.90 metres, finishing behind Australia’s Eleanor Patterson, who won gold with 1.96m, and silver medalist Nicola Olyslagers.

This achievement marks another milestone for Adeshina, Nigeria’s national high jump record holder. In the men’s 100 metres, Kanyinsola Ajayi secured bronze with a time of 9.90 seconds, after qualifying for the final with a semi-final win in 9.94 seconds.

Ajayi, who holds Nigeria's national record, was the only representative from Nigeria in the 100m finals. The gold medal was won by Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme, who broke the Commonwealth Games record with a time of 9.83 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 9.86 seconds set by Ato Boldon.

Eseme’s victory is notable as he only began sprinting at age 24.
