Ajayi Wins Bronze in Men's 100m at Commonwealth Games

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Kanyisola Ajayi represented Team Nigeria in the men's 100m sprint but finished with a bronze medal, clocking 9.90 seconds. This performance was below his national record of 9.84 seconds, set prior to the Games.

The gold medal was claimed by Emmanuel Eseme of Cameroon, who established a new Games Record with a time of 9.83 seconds, while Lachlan Kennedy from Australia secured the silver with a personal best of 9.85 seconds. In the semifinals, Nigerian sprinters Favour Ashe and Adekalu Nicolas Fakorede did not advance, finishing sixth and fourth in their respective heats.

In the women's 100m, Blessing Ogundiran did not compete in her semifinal, while Rosemary Chukwuma cited a hamstring injury as the reason for her poor performance. Team Nigeria also faced challenges in other events, including the women's high jump and weightlifting, where Ruth Imoleayo Ayodele finished seventh in the women's 63kg category.
