Temitope Adeshina Wins Nigeria's First High Jump Medal

Temitope Adeshina delivered a historic performance for Team Nigeria at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games by winning a bronze medal in the women's high jump, thus ending a 72-year wait for a Nigerian medal in this event. Adeshina cleared a height of 1.90 meters, securing third place behind Australia's Eleanor Patterson and Nicola Olyslagers.

This achievement marks her as the first Nigerian high jumper to stand on a Commonwealth Games podium since Emmanuel Ifeajuna won gold in 1954. Additionally, Adeshina is the first Nigerian woman to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the high jump.

Her success is particularly significant as only two Nigerians had previously won Commonwealth Games medals in high jump, with Josiah Majekodunmi earning silver in 1950 and Ifeajuna's gold in 1954.
