Umoafia Wins Nigeria's 4th Gold at Commonwealth Games

At the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, weightlifter Edidiong Joseph Umoafia secured Nigeria’s fourth gold medal by winning the men’s 71kg event. Umoafia topped the standings, outperforming John Lautafi Tafi from Samoa, who took silver, and Ezekiel Moses from Nauru, who claimed bronze.

His victory contributed to Nigeria's growing medal tally, which now includes four gold medals, bolstered by earlier successes from para powerlifters and Ruth Nyong Asuquo's silver in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event.
