Team Nigeria Secures 10 Golds at Glasgow 2026 Games

The 2026 Commonwealth Games concluded in Glasgow, Scotland, with Team Nigeria placing seventh on the final medals table, earning 10 gold, 7 silver, and 7 bronze medals. Australia topped the table with 70 gold medals, followed by England and Canada.

Notably, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, a veteran Para Powerlifter, broke a world record by bench pressing 175kg to win the Women’s Heavyweight title. Team Nigeria's performance was one gold medal shy of the 11 won at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, which was Nigeria's best performance to date.

Yusuf Alli, Chairman of the Elite Athletes Development and Podium Board, praised the athletes' achievements and highlighted the effective preparation and welfare provided by the National Sports Commission, led by Malam Shehu Dikko and Hon. Bukola Olopade.

For the first time in over three decades, male athletes, led by Captain Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, won gold in the Men's Shot Put event, marking a significant shift in medal distribution.
