2026 Diaspora Day to Enhance Nigeria's Health System

The 2026 Diaspora Day will emphasize a health initiative designed to leverage the expertise of Nigerian medical professionals in the diaspora to enhance local health systems across Nigeria. Scheduled from July 20 to July 26, 2026, the event will culminate in a grand final in Abuja.

NIDCOM's Director of Media and Public Relations, Abdur Rahman Balogun, announced this initiative, which aims to expand access to specialist care in underserved communities. Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, NIDCOM's CEO, highlighted the government's commitment to equitable health coverage across Nigeria's geopolitical zones.

The initiative will involve collaboration with various medical associations, including the Nigerian Physicians in America and the Canadian Association of Nigerian Physicians and Dentists, which will conduct interventions in specific states. The program will also include mentorship and knowledge transfer, with a focus on maternal and neonatal health, sickle cell screening, and other critical health services.

The event will officially kick off in Abuja, with a follow-up report on its impact expected after the activities.
