Omoragbon Urges Review of Diaspora Health Initiative 2026

On February 19, 2026, Pastor Peter Omoragbon, President of the Diaspora Nurses Association Nigeria (DNAN) and Chairman of the Health Committee of the Nigerian Diaspora Organization in Europe, urged for an urgent review of the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative 2026 (DHII 2026). He acknowledged the contributions of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and the Federal Ministry of Health but criticized the initiative's framework as exclusionary and not reflective of the multidisciplinary nature of healthcare delivery.

Omoragbon highlighted that healthcare cannot be managed by a single profession and called for equal recognition of all healthcare professionals, including nurses, midwives, and pharmacists. He expressed concern that the current approach undermines the potential contributions of the diaspora, which collectively sends over $20 billion annually in remittances and possesses valuable expertise.

Omoragbon emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to healthcare that includes all relevant professions to build a resilient health system in Nigeria.
