Ex-INEC Commissioner Calls 2026 Electoral Act a Tragedy

The former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Commissioner has labeled the proposed 2026 Electoral Act as the worst in Nigeria's history, calling it a "tragedy" that must be addressed urgently before the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the second annual lecture of the alumni association of the National Institute for Security Studies, he highlighted the critical need for reforms in the electoral process to ensure credible elections.

He identified three key institutions essential for credible elections: INEC, the judiciary, and security agencies, stressing the importance of strengthening their roles and ensuring proper coordination among them. The Commissioner warned that without these reforms, Nigeria's progress and overall quality of life could be significantly hindered.
