INEC Chair Urges Transport Unions for 2026 FCT Elections

In preparation for the 2026 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has called on transport unions to facilitate seamless logistics.

During a meeting, he warned against any hijacking of electoral materials and stressed a zero-tolerance policy for errors, whether genuine or not. Amupitan emphasized that the commission does not want to hear excuses for any mistakes, whether they are deliberate or not.

He urged the transport unions to play their roles effectively to ensure the credibility of the electoral process. The elections are set to commence at 8:00 AM, with polling units opening at 7:00 to 7:30 AM, necessitating that vehicles leave the racks by 6:00 to 6:30 AM.

A memorandum of understanding is expected to be established to ensure early deployment of vehicles, allowing for efficient movement of electoral materials.
