INEC Prepares for FCT Elections with 1,132 Vehicles

Professor Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), warned staff against dereliction of duty as the February 21 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections approach. During an assessment visit in Abuja, he highlighted the importance of restoring public confidence in the electoral process.

INEC has hired a total of 1,132 vehicles from transport unions to facilitate the elections, emphasizing the need for effective logistics. Amupitan reminded staff of the consequences of misconduct under the Electoral Act 2022, which includes penalties for faulty result declarations.

He stressed the importance of punctuality and adherence to INEC regulations, with voting scheduled to commence at 8:30 AM and conclude by 2:30 PM. Additionally, he noted that training for staff would take place from February 13 to 15, 2026, to address any shortcomings.

Amupitan expressed concerns about past logistical challenges, particularly during the Anambra state governorship election, and insisted on maintaining high standards for the upcoming elections.
