FCT Area Council Elections: Low Voter Turnout Reported

On Saturday morning, the area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) commenced at 8:30 AM, leading to deserted roads and stranded commuters. The elections were marked by restricted movement until 6 PM, with no commercial vehicles in sight.

Reports indicated that by 7:45 AM, no Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials were present at polling units, such as the primary school in Bwari area council. Residents in areas like Gwarinpa and Kubwa were seen engaging in leisure activities instead of voting.

Security agencies, including the police, were deployed to ensure safety, with Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya Nlia, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, assuring residents of a calm and secure voting environment.

Despite the preparations, voter turnout was low, with only a few individuals seen checking their names on the voter registration list at polling units in Garki.
