FCT Elections Marred by Low Turnout and Delays

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections, scheduled for Saturday, experienced significant issues, including low voter turnout and the late arrival of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Although the elections were set to commence at 8:00 AM, INEC officials arrived late at several polling centers.

For instance, at Kogo Primary School polling units 28, 29, and 30, officials arrived at 8:10 AM, but voting did not start until 8:30 AM. Similar delays were reported at polling unit 064 and 008 in Lugbe, where INEC ad hoc staff and materials arrived late.

Voters at Daki Biyu Village polling units 119 and 120 were present as early as 7:00 AM, yet voting only began at 9:04 AM. In contrast, polling unit 060 on Abidjan Street in Wuse Zone 3 saw officials arrive early at 7:40 AM, allowing for timely preparations, while voting at polling unit 008 in Lugbe commenced at 10:20 AM.
