NASS Approves N1.504trn Army Budget for 2026 Fiscal Year

The National Assembly has approved the Nigerian Army's proposed budget of N1.504 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, amounting to N1,504,251,069,722. The approval came during a closed-door session led by Senator Abdulaziz Yar Adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Army, and attended by Lt.

Gen. Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff.

The joint committee expressed satisfaction with the budget proposal but highlighted significant concerns regarding delays in fund releases, which affect the Ministry of Defence's ability to execute its mandate effectively. Hon.

Aminu Balel, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the Army, commended the Army's leadership for their commitment to national security and territorial integrity. The committee members assured that they would work collaboratively with the Chief of Army Staff to ensure timely fund releases, emphasizing the critical nature of the Army's operations in safeguarding the nation.
