FIFA May Dismiss Nigeria's Appeal Against DR Congo

Jo Bonfrere, the former head coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, has expressed skepticism regarding the appeal submitted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to FIFA against the Democratic Republic of Congo. The NFF accused DR Congo of fielding an ineligible player during their match.

Bonfrere, in an interview with Complete Sport, stated that he does not believe FIFA will find any significant wrongdoing by DR Congo. He noted that FIFA's investigation is unlikely to yield a different outcome, suggesting that there is insufficient evidence to support Nigeria's claims.

Bonfrere indicated that FIFA is expected to deliver its verdict by May, just weeks before the intercontinental playoff scheduled for March 23-31, 2026, in Mexico. The 79-year-old coach emphasized that the timeline for FIFA's investigation is tight and that it appears they have not identified any issues with DR Congo's eligibility claims.
