Im Okon Joins South Africa's Squad for 2026 World Cup

Im Okon, a 22-year-old defender born to a Nigerian father and a South African mother, has been named in South Africa's 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Currently playing for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga, Okon has already represented the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, five times.

This upcoming World Cup will mark his debut in a major tournament, following his omission from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The squad selection was made by head coach Hugo Broos, who included other notable players such as goalkeeper Ronwen Williams from Mamelodi Sundowns and midfielder Teboho Mokoena.

The squad features a mix of players from various clubs, including Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, and Philadelphia Union, among others.
