2026 WTT Contender Lagos Tournament Kicks Off May 19

The 2026 WTT Contender Lagos tournament is set to commence on May 19 and will run until May 24, featuring a prize pool of $100,000. The event will take place at the Molad Okoya Thomas Hall in Teslim Balogun Stadium, with 130 players from 20 countries participating.

Among the competitors, the top seed in the men's singles is defending champion Anders Lind from Denmark, currently ranked world No. 17, while the women's singles champion is Honoka Hashimoto from Japan. This tournament marks the second edition of the WTT Contender Lagos, following a successful debut in 2023.

Adesoji Tayo, chairman of the local organizing committee, stated that the tournament aims to showcase elite-level table tennis in Africa and positively impact Nigerian players. The event will feature 32 players in the main draw for both men's and women's singles, along with 16 pairs in men's and women's doubles, and eight pairs in mixed doubles.
