2026 WTT Contender Kicks Off in Lagos with $100,000 Prize

The 2026 WTT Contender tournament commenced today, May 24, at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Sports Hall in Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, featuring a prize pool of $100,000 and 400 ITTF world ranking points. Adesoji Tayo, chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, expressed excitement about delivering an unforgettable experience for players and fans.

Dr. Kweku Tandoh, tournament director, noted the event's significance in the 13-year history of table tennis in Lagos, which began with the Lagos International Table Tennis Classic in 2013. The tournament has gained sponsorship from the Lagos State Government and approval from the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) to elevate its status.

Lekan Fatodu, Lagos State Sports Commissioner, emphasized the honor of hosting such a significant gathering of notable table tennis players and officials. The competition features elite players from countries including Japan, South Korea, Germany, France, Denmark, the USA, India, and more, showcasing Nigeria's growing prominence in the sport.
