NPFL Announces Kickoff for 2026/27 Season

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has set the kickoff date for the 2026/27 season to occur between August 27 and 29, 2026. This decision follows a joint stakeholders meeting involving the National Sports Commission, Nigeria Football Federation, and NPFL club owners.

The approved football calendar indicates that the season will run until May 28, 2027, with a timeline that incorporates fixture organization and the Feder Cup. Shehu Dikko, the chairman of the National Sports Commission, announced that the league champion will receive a prize of N1 billion, marking the largest winner's purse in the history of Nigerian club football.

This enhancement in prize money is part of broader reforms aimed at improving the commercial value of the NPFL and attracting greater investment in the domestic game. The new campaign will also feature four promoted clubs from the Nigeria National League, following the conclusion of the 2025/26 second-tier season.
