Toro Calls for Pressure on NSC, NFF for NPFL Reforms

Sani Ahm Toro, a former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Association, has called on Nigerian football stakeholders to exert pressure on the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure the implementation of a newly announced salary structure and prize money for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). This call follows a joint meeting held on Tuesday, June 23, in Abuja, where a significant financial overhaul was approved.

The overhaul includes raising the league champion's prize money from the previous N200 million to N1 billion, effective from the 2026/2027 season. The runner-up will receive N500 million, while the third-place team will take home N300 million.

Additionally, the league clubs are mandated to enforce a minimum salary of N2 million monthly for NPFL players to combat talent flight and protect player welfare. Toro praised the decision but questioned the source of the funds and emphasized the need for public pressure to ensure compliance.
