Dapo Abiodun Calls for Peaceful Elections at Anglican Synod

On September 16, 2026, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun called upon the Church in Nigeria to mobilize its members for responsible citizenship and peaceful participation in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 15th General Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church in Ikenne, Abiodun urged the church to leverage its influence to discourage provocation, intimidation, misinformation, electoral malpractice, and violence.

He emphasized that elections should focus on ideas and programs rather than conflict. Abiodun encouraged the church to serve as a voice for truth and reconciliation, advising religious leaders to provide constructive counsel to the government while maintaining independence.

He noted that the synod's theme, “The Priesthood of All Believers: Equipping God’s People for the Work of the Ministry,” was an opportunity for the church to renew its commitment to God and society. Abiodun welcomed attendees, including the Primate of All Nigeria, Most Reverend Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, and congratulated the Anglican Diocese of Remo for hosting the event.
