ADC to Decide Atiku Abubakar's Running Mate for 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is set to meet to determine Alhaji Atiku Abubakar's running mate for the 2027 presidential election. The decision-making process will involve the party's statutory organs, including the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Sources within the campaign indicate that the former Vice President will not make a unilateral decision. An ad hoc committee has reportedly been established to critically evaluate potential candidates, particularly from the southern regions of Nigeria, to balance the ticket given Atiku's northern background.

Prominent southern political figures, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha, are being considered. The ADC leadership is cautious to avoid internal crises, recalling the previous selection of a running mate that led to significant dissent within the party during Atiku's 2023 presidential bid.
