Adebayo Criticizes Atiku's Fuel Subsidy U-Turn for 2027

Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), condemned Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), for his recent declaration to restore fuel subsidy if elected in 2027. Adebayo pointed out that Atiku's current position contradicts his 2023 campaign promise to remove the subsidy.

During an interview with News Central, Adebayo stated, “My colleagues are changing parties, changing manifesto,” referencing Atiku's previous commitment to eliminate the subsidy and sell the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Adebayo criticized Atiku's inconsistency, noting that he had previously labeled the subsidy regime as economically unsustainable.

Furthermore, Adebayo expressed concern over the trend of political actors switching parties ahead of the 2027 elections, suggesting it has weakened ideological consistency in Nigerian politics, stating that most of his previous opponents have moved to other parties.
