Atiku Abubakar Unveils Key Policies for 2027 Election

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has unveiled a series of policy proposals as Nigeria's 2027 presidential campaign formally begins. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) opened the campaign window on August 19, with elections scheduled for January 16, 2027.

Atiku, seeking the presidency for the sixth time, has proposed a return to petrol subsidy, the reopening of Nigeria's land borders, and a commitment to tackle insecurity within one year. His stance on petrol subsidy has sparked criticism from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration, particularly regarding the management of funds saved from the subsidy removal.

Atiku argues that the removal has increased transport and food costs, making life difficult for Nigerians. He insists that any subsidy reinstated would be targeted to alleviate economic pressures rather than reviving an import racket.

The presidency has demanded clarity on Atiku's proposals and questioned their financing.
