Shekarau Defects to APC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Ibrahim Shekarau, the former governor of Kano State, has officially announced his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People's Democratic Party (PDP). This decision, made public on a Sunday, follows extensive consultations with political allies and supporters across Kano State.

Shekarau emphasized that his move is driven by the necessity to align with a platform that offers a viable path for political relevance and development, reflecting the current realities within the PDP. He expressed gratitude for the opportunities he had while serving in the PDP but deemed it necessary to reconsider his position for the betterment of the people of Kano State.

The current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, welcomed Shekarau's return, describing it as a significant boost for the APC and a momentous occasion for the party in Kano.
