Gov Yusuf Seeks Shekarau's Return to APC Amid Political Shifts

In a strategic political move, Governor Yusuf of Kano is engaging in discussions with former Governor Shekarau to encourage his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes after Shekarau's fallout with Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), and his recent indications of possibly leaving the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Sources close to Shekarau confirmed that the meeting with Yusuf in Abuja was part of broader consultations aimed at persuading him to rejoin the APC. The meeting occurred shortly after Shekarau hinted at abandoning the PDP, although he ruled out joining the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Shekarau, a respected elder statesman and former Minister of Education, is viewed as a potential game changer in Kano politics, especially with the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial elections. Governor Yusuf's outreach is part of his strategy to secure his position in the next election, having previously faced challenges from Nasir Gawuna.
