Paul Ikonn Targets Abaribe's Senate Seat for 2027

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Paul Ikonn, a former gubernatorial candidate and the former executive secretary of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority under the Buhari administration, announced his intention to contest for the Abia South Senate seat in the 2027 elections. He obtained nomination forms from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as he prepares to challenge the incumbent senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, who has held the position for nearly two decades.

Ikonn expressed a need for effective representation for Abia South, criticizing Abaribe for being disconnected from the grassroots and emphasizing the importance of attracting federal presence and development to the district. He urged Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu's reform agenda, highlighting the need for infrastructural development and empowerment programs in the region.

The APC began selling nomination forms for the 2027 elections on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, slightly behind the Independent National Electoral Commission's schedule for the elections set for January 16, 2027, and February 6, 2027.
