Arewa Group Urges Political Stability Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Arewa Think Tank, led by Muhammad Alhaji Yakubu, along with ten civil society organizations, has issued a warning to opposition political parties in Nigeria against actions that could undermine the nation's democracy ahead of the 2027 general elections. They emphasized the importance of adhering to democratic principles and operating within the law, cautioning that any attempts to gain power outside these principles threaten the stability of the nation.

The group also criticized the U.S. government's decision to withdraw non-essential embassy staff from Abuja, stating that this move sends a negative signal to the international community and could discourage potential investors. Yakubu argued that Nigeria's security challenges should be addressed without exaggerating the situation, as doing so could damage the country's global standing and investor confidence.

The group called for political maturity and urged opposition leaders to prioritize national interests over personal ambitions.
