Baba Malam Wali Wins Yobe APC Governorship Primary

Baba Malam Wali has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Yobe State in the upcoming 2027 general elections. The announcement followed the APC governorship primary election held on Friday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Damaturu, where Wali received 236,711 votes, defeating his closest rival, Dr. Abubakar Bukar Kagu, who garnered 9,748 votes.

Other candidates included Bashir Sheriff Machina with 1,894 votes, Engr. Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja with 1,178 votes, Hamidu Alhaji Muhammad with 1,722 votes, Inusa Muhammad with 1,148 votes, and Ma Aji Modu with 1,371 votes. Wali was earlier recognized as the party's consensus candidate during a stakeholders' meeting convened by the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Geidam.

This development is expected to enhance the call for the governorship seat to shift to Yobe North, which has not produced either a governor or deputy governor since the state's creation in 1991. Baba Malam Wali, born in 1958, holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Zaria and has had a long career in public service.
