APC's Buni Open to Direct Primaries for 2027 Elections

Governor Mala Buni of Yobe State, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced the party's readiness to conduct direct primaries for the 2027 governorship elections if consensus candidates do not materialize. This statement was made during a press briefing in Damaturu, conveyed by Mamman Mohammed, the Director General of Press and Media Affairs.

Buni noted that six APC governorship aspirants in the state have rejected the idea of endorsing a single candidate, which has drawn criticism from stakeholders, including Baba Wali, who called for credible direct primaries. Buni mentioned that the party is not ruling out the direct election mode for selecting candidates, referencing a similar situation in 2019 when few aspirants contested.

He expressed optimism that the party could reach an amicable resolution through dialogue, emphasizing the importance of unity among APC members in Yobe State to ensure success in the upcoming elections.
