British Government Supports Credible Elections in Nigeria

The British Government, represented by the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, visited Kwara State on Tuesday to discuss support for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The Deputy High Commissioner clarified that the UK has no preferred candidate and will not interfere in Nigeria's political process, emphasizing the importance of free, peaceful, inclusive, and credible elections.

During the visit, the Deputy High Commissioner commended Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his administration's efforts to promote women's participation in governance. The governor's administration, since assuming office in 2019, has made significant progress in various sectors, including health, education, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The British Government is also working with several states to improve digital skills and support young talent in the technology sector. Additionally, the governor announced plans to establish a shea processing factory in Kaiama, which is described as the second largest in Nigeria once operational.
