UK Envoy Affirms Neutrality in Nigeria's 2027 Elections

Gill Lever, the Deputy British High Commissioner to Nigeria, assured during a visit to the Nigeria Governor Forum chairman, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, that the UK will not interfere in Nigeria's 2027 elections and does not prefer any political party. She emphasized the UK's commitment to supporting credible, inclusive, and peaceful elections in Nigeria while maintaining neutrality in the country's political contests.

Lever noted that the UK government aims to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure citizens can participate freely in elections without fear of intimidation. She commended Kwara State's policies promoting gender inclusivity and women's representation in governance, highlighting that half of the cabinet positions are occupied by women.

Additionally, she discussed the UK's support programs in Nigeria, particularly in digital skills development for youth, and mentioned the Ilorin Innov Hub project aimed at improving technological skills among young Nigerians.
