Coalition Urges US Against Muslim-Muslim Ticket for 2027

A coalition of Christian organizations and human rights groups from Nigeria's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has submitted a petition to U.S. President Donald Trump, the U.S.

Congress, and diplomatic missions. The petition warns that a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the 2027 general election could exacerbate Nigeria’s security situation.

The petition was led by the Christian Youth Alliance of Nigeria (CYAN), with signatures from its Chairman Zariyi Yusuf Madaki, Secretary Nasiru Jagaba, and others. The coalition commended the U.S. for redesignating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) but criticized the lack of effective measures to stop violence against Christians, citing the killing of at least 30 Christians in Naridon community, Kaduna State.

They argue that retaining a same-faith presidential ticket would increase religious tensions and described President Bola Tinubu's decision as a significant political threat to Christians, particularly in northern Nigeria. The coalition also criticized the federal government's policy on rehabilitating repentant terrorists, alleging misuse of tax funds from persecuted Christians.
