Northern Origin Alone Won't Secure Votes in 2027 - Baba-Ahmed

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Tinubu, warned that simply being from the northern region does not ensure electoral support in the 2027 presidential elections. Speaking on Arise Television's morning show, Baba-Ahmed highlighted that the northern electorate is moving away from the notion that candidates from their region will automatically secure votes.

He pointed out that the southern part of Nigeria has also learned lessons from past elections, where candidates from the region did not necessarily win based solely on their origin. Baba-Ahmed questioned why a Yoruba man has been president for four years and not someone from Edo or the South-East, indicating that Nigerian voters are increasingly considering factors beyond regional affiliations.

He noted that poverty and insecurity are significant issues affecting voter decisions, suggesting that Nigerians will prioritize candidates who can address these challenges effectively.
