Baba-Ahmed Advocates for Merit-Based Leadership in Nigeria

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the National Chairman of the People's Redemption Party (PRP), called for Nigeria to move beyond regional politics in selecting leaders. Speaking in an interview on Tuesday in Abuja, he emphasized the need for capable leadership that addresses the country's challenges, rather than choosing candidates based on ethnic or religious sentiments.

Baba-Ahmed endorsed Donald Duke, the former governor of Cross River State, as the best candidate for the 2027 presidential elections, highlighting that the PRP has no northern aspirants in the race. He criticized the tendency among politicians to exploit ethnic divisions for political gain, which he believes undermines national cohesion.

Baba-Ahmed stressed that Nigeria's future depends on embracing merit-based leadership and building a political culture that rewards competence. He expressed confidence that Duke's candidacy would appeal to voters across various regions and ethnicities, uniting citizens around a common vision of peace, security, and prosperity.
