CSJ Urges Political Parties to Prioritize Economy for 2027

As the 2027 general election approaches, the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) has called on political parties and candidates to prioritize the economy in their campaigns by presenting realistic and measurable plans to combat poverty, unemployment, and declining living standards. During a political and governance dialogue in Abuja, supported by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Nigeria, CSJ Executive Director Eze Onyekpere emphasized that Nigerians can no longer tolerate campaigns based on slogans and unfulfilled promises.

He criticized the trend of political parties releasing manifestos without public scrutiny or clear funding strategies. Onyekpere pointed out that Nigeria's economic crisis stems from years of poor policy choices, resulting in widespread poverty and food insecurity.

He noted that despite economic growth, many Nigerians have not seen improvements in their lives due to population growth outpacing economic expansion. He stated that Nigeria needs to create approximately four million jobs within three years to address unemployment effectively.
