Lukman Warns Kwankwaso Against Leaving ADC for 2027

Salihu Lukman, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), cautioned former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso against exiting the party, stating that such a move would diminish his political standing. Lukman made this statement on a Sunday, addressing concerns about Kwankwaso's potential defection to another party.

He emphasized that the ADC is uniquely positioned to negotiate coalitions and that unity among opposition leaders is crucial for electoral success against the ruling APC, which won the 2023 elections by a slim margin. Lukman noted that the opposition was destabilized during the last elections due to factionalism among the PDP, LP, and NNPP.

He proposed a meeting among opposition leaders to discuss challenges and strategize for the 2027 elections, highlighting the importance of leaving a positive political legacy, especially as Kwankwaso approaches his 70th birthday in October. Lukman also referenced Peter Obi's recent announcement to defect from the ADC and the need for a roadmap for coalition building.
