Lukman Warns Kwankwaso Against Premature Defection

In an open letter titled "Run Away from Yourself," Salihu Mohammad Lukman, a former chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, warned Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano State, against considering an early defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Lukman expressed concerns that Kwankwaso's potential departure could damage political realignment efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He noted that Kwankwaso had been consulting with leaders across various parties, including the People's Democratic Party, Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party, to address challenges within the ADC. Lukman argued that such a move could undermine opposition unity, especially since Kwankwaso had already contemplated leaving the ADC within six weeks of joining.

He emphasized the need for stronger alternatives in light of the internal crises affecting the PDP, LP, and NNPP. Lukman urged Kwankwaso to focus on strengthening the ADC's manifesto and governance structure, highlighting the importance of unity among opposition leaders for the future of Nigeria's democracy.
