El-Rufai Advocates for Southern Presidency in 2027

Bashir El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has called on northern political leaders to refrain from contesting the presidency in the 2027 elections, advocating for a southern presidency. He emphasized that this move would allow the South to complete its turn in the current political arrangement and help maintain balance in the country's leadership structure.

El-Rufai highlighted that this approach could reduce the tensions often associated with the struggle for power between the North and South. He suggested that northern politicians should focus on the 2031 elections, which would provide a clearer opportunity for the region to present a strong presidential candidate without disrupting the current political arrangement.

Additionally, he hinted at potential political alignments among opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, suggesting that these discussions could lead to a new direction for the country.
