INEC Sees Surge in Groups Seeking Political Party Registration for 2027 Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria has seen a surge in the number of groups seeking to register as political parties ahead of the 2027 general election. The number of associations seeking registration has increased by 171, with 19 additional letters of intent submitted.

Sam Olumekun, a national commissioner and chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee at INEC, confirmed the increase. INEC is diligently processing the submissions in line with established procedures.

The commission has urged applicants to be patient and avoid actions that could jeopardize approval. This development signifies a growing interest in political participation and the upcoming electoral process in Nigeria.
